A letter from Paul Greenwell about his project to help renovate the home of a family that has contributed to many people.

I’ve called my project “The Vision”, because this family has a massive vision for the community over so many years.
My mission is to bring together the Love, Sense of Community and Giving be alive and real for everyone the project touches as the Barratt’s have for those who see what is possible once the human spirit is inspired and in action.
The plan; To renovate the Barratt Family Home in Carlisle to better suit their needs, provide them with a new car and refresh their 70’s something home completely by donations of goods and labor.
As you might appreciate once you read the Barratt family Bio, these are ordinary people doing extraordinary deeds.
Paul’s inability to work regular hours, Joanne a primary school teacher’s wage and Chris a student, coupled with the family’s medical bills means there is not a lot of cash to take care of much more than existence. Paul works as computer consultant from home, in the family lounge room. Joanne a school teacher does her amazing work and research on the kitchen table and Chris studies in a very small bedroom, in their 3 bedroom 1 bathroom house. There really is not a lot of room for anything anywhere.
I know they have had some enormous health challenges, but through it all, they have been there for others, often at personal sacrifice. Paul’s health is now in question again, there is another serious challenge. I know he has a concern for the financial burden he would leave his small family should anything untoward happen. That is what gave me the idea for the project.
I am putting together a team of people to design, renovate and decorate their home. There is already an architect working on the design, a building company showing preliminary interest and an enthusiastic team willing to do whatever it takes to lighten the family’s load and show them that they are appreciated and loved by the community around them. The renovation should be ready to commence in February 2012. Of course we will need to have them away from their home while it all takes place. We are planning some short trips to great locations, to fit in with their medical regimen.
I am asking you to please consider filming, and producing a program on 6.30 and airing it to showcase the triumph of the human spirit, despite adversity and circumstance and the generosity of individuals, companies and the community. I have seen the care, respect and dignity the program as shown with other stories and wish that for these guys.
I believe this would be the first time a project like this has been done in WA and shown on national TV.
Your agreement to do so would make a massive difference to the Barratt family to be recognized for their achievements, bring attention to their causes, the family and friends who love them dearly and assist in getting the kind of donations of materials and manpower for the project considerably easier.
Thank you for considering my request.
I look forward to being able to speak with you soon with more detail and to discuss your participation.
Regards
